Summer
Time in the Patton Family Vineyard
by
Blake, Devon, & Miles Patton
The big news at the vineyard is the completion of a 10' tall deer
fence around the entire 4-acre vineyard. The buffet is over for
the multitude of deer that wander the woods of Oxbow Park. After
finding 23 deer munching happily on our young LaCrescent vines in
2006, we started a joint project with the Department of Natural
Resources to erect a permanent barrier. The vineyard, which is just
north of Byron, Minnesota near the park, is made up of roughly 2000
vines including Frontenac,
Prairie
Star, LaCrescent,
and Frontenac
Gris.

Wines
Cold Climate wines are often known by their higher acid and lower
tannin levels as compared to California wines. Decanting is almost
always a good idea with cold-climate reds. The easiest way to decant
a wine is to pour your wine down the middle of the glass allowing
the wine to splash and breath for a few minutes before drinking.
Our
Full-bodied Red
First Embrace is Post Town Winery's interpretation of the red Frontenac
grape. Frontenac is a hybrid grape created by crossing the European
wine grapes (Vitas Vinifera) and Midwest wild grapes (vitas ripera)
Our
Rose'
First Blush is Post Town Winery's entry into the Rose' class of
wines. Although the wine is significantly darker than your off-the-shelf
Rose or White Zin, it was made in the Rose style which means that
the juice was pressed from the skins immediately after the grapes
were removed from the stems and crushed. This leaves a very light
summer-time wine with a lower alcohol level and a clean finish.
